Started working on a magazine cover type thing in GIMP a few days ago. I started off just messing with a picture of my faace by using the fill effect button and filling random areas with different textures. It had a nice effect and looked pretty cool. Then I started testing some layouts with different pictures I already had on my computer. I then discovered the emboss filter and started going wild. It makes everything look so metallic. In hindsight, it probably ended up ccovering over a lot of the previous work that I did, but I think it ended up making a cool texture.
There's no way I actually end up using anything similar to this as the cover of my magazine when I make it, it isn't really the vision I was going for, but it was a good learning experience and a good way to kill half an hour nonetheless. When I published this edit I realized a lot of my pictures revolve around textured circles for some reason.
During my last semester at LC I finally took CS1. I felt it would be a breeze, and it was, because I'd already had a lot of experience coding in python before. C is a really easy language but the class was still super fun. I really enjoyed the problem solving element of it. The last part of the class was graphics, and it really made me wish I had one more semester to take a class here. My professor, Jeff Ely, had his own package of functions (I think you could call it a C library? idk) that you could use to create pictures. It was really simple, just shapes and lines. I took up a challenge of trying to create a reaalistic 3d-looking sphere using his package of 2d graphics. While I did not succeed, I think the results I ended up with look pretty cool. They kinda have a vintage radar type look to them.
I then installed a virtual machine to run Linux on my computer, and experimented with the library in my own time, to see what else I could add to the image. I'm really interested to see what else I can conjure up with this library at some point.
